How to prepare for ielts at home?
If you have good English competency, you can prepare for ielts test at home. All you have to do is to follow below mentioned steps. However, first thing first. Let us first get acquainted with the ielts test format.
IELTS Test format:
1st Test. IELTS Writing:
Two tasks need to be written in 60 minutes.
2nd Test. IELTS Listening: Total 40 questions to be answered within 30 minutes of listening podcast + 10 minutes’ answers transfer time
3rd Test. IELTS Reading: 40 Questions to be solved in 60 minutes.
4th Test. IELTS Speaking: Conducted in 3 parts: Part 1- Introduction. Part 2- Cue Card. Part 3- Discussion. Total speaking test time - 10 to 15 minutes
In case of IELTS computer-delivered test, the test sequence is listening, reading and writing. In the listening test a test taker gets only two minutes to review ielts listening answers.

1. The first module you should prepare for must be ielts listening. In the end of every video you will find answers. You must make efforts to score 30+ out of 40.
2. The second ielts module you must prepare for is reading. This test usually takes a toll upon ielts test takers if they, in general, hate reading. The best way to prepare for this module is to download the pdf files of Cambridge IELTS books and practise them on regular basis. The latest editions, say, Cambridge IELTS 15/16/17 would be a good idea to start with. Whenever you do reading practice at home, do it within time. Under no circumstances should you take more than 60 minutes to complete reading test. This will help you prepare for the test day.
3. For writing module, you should certainly watch some video tutorials. There are very few authentic Youtube channels that guide you well. One very good Ielts channel on YouTube is IELTS Advantage. You must learn to structure your task 1 and task 2 first. Then, you should read some sample answers to get an idea about ielts writing key areas. For assessment, it is advisable to have someone to give you feedback on your writing.
4. For speaking test practice, watch Ielts Energy TV. On this channel some ex-examiners will help you understand how ielts questions should be answered. For self-practice, you must record cue card topics on daily basis. If possible, you may also ask your family members or friends to ask you ielts questions to help you prepare for the test day.
